Black Hat

These are the techniques used by "bad" seo companies, they may be able to get your website found in a search engine for a specific search term but for how long? What they do is use hidden text and spam the search engines. This may confuse the search engines for a limited time and for that short period you will have search results but in the end your website will be caught out and not only will you lose all of your results but you will also be likely taken out of the index. Please make sure that you choose your seo firm wisely.

How do I know I am choosing the right Search Engine Optimisation(SEO) company?

There are many search engine optimisation companies out there to choose from, too many, but how do you know which one out of the 78 million search results shown in google is the right one for you? Well Google has an article talking about how to avoid bad SEO optimisers and how to find the good ones that will increase you rankings in search engines and not get your website dropped altogether. This article is full of information on choosing the right SEO optimiser. For more information please visit Google Webmasters SEO.

This information is being provided for those in search of SEO so that they know that not all search engine optimisation companies are good and that some tend to sell the easy and less effective ways of SEO to customers. Some SEO companies may claim that they can get you 30 top searches in the top 10 search engines but what they didn't tell you is that they will be using search terms that are never searched like "$357 computer tower case with monitor".

A good SEO optimiser will allow you to choose your main keywords, do an analysis and will choose a medium where you will have some less competitive search terms like "Intel Pentium Computer Towers" and some more competitive search terms such as "Computer Towers" so that you have a healthy balance and return the best optimisation and results possible for your website.

There are some search engine optimisation companies that are using full phrases instead of broad keywords to optimise web pages. The problem is that these phrases are rarely or never searched and are being used to sell ineffective SEO.

In order to avoid making this mistake, you can either request that you send though your own keyword list or when you are given the keywords by your SEO Company, ask to have the keywords run through their keyword analyzer to show how many times the keyword is searched monthly. If the results only return 800 results monthly do not be alarmed as it will normally be a less competitive search term and easier to get a better ranking. For instance "computer towers" gets approx. 4500 searches a month from the keyword analyser I am using whereas "computer" gets over 2 million searches monthly. Chances are you will never get a higher search engine ranking than microsoft or apple computers for the search term "computer" your chances are much higher for "computer towers" so it is best to have a healthy balance of keywords.

If your SEO company gives you a list of keywords and phrases type them into google. If it shows less than 50 000 searches then it is not competitive and no one will be doing searches for it. A good choice of keywords should return results of 250 000 to 22 million+ search results.

Make sure that you shop around when looking for the right SEO company and don't just pick the first one in the search engine. You want to make sure the money you are spending is going to help increase Return on Investment (ROI).

Check out what your SEO Company has to offer, their services and prices. Check that they rank well for their main keywords and phrases. If they are appear on the first page for "search engine optimisation" it does not necessarily mean that they are a good seo company or that they follow the rules. They could very well be spamming the search engines and may have obtained high rankings for the mean time but once the search engine recognises this they will penalise the website or even drop the website completely off the search engine.
